Encased in a neat blue box, The Optimist overdrive is exactly what you'd expect to happen when you stick Cory Wong in a room with Jackson Audio boffins. Three independent circuits shape an inspiring array of lead-and-rhythm-worthy sound, building a tight dual-overdrive equipped with two footswitches: OD1 and OD2, so that both drives can be isolated or stacked. The three-band EQ controls have been directly based on the legendary Baxandall EQ found in studio equalizers of old, and finishes and undeniably versatile and fierce little tone-shaping tool.
The Optimist: The Cory Wong Signature Dual Overdrive
Taking more inspiration from the vintage masters, OD1 has been specifically wired to emulate the infamous 'mythical' overdrive that just can't be found any more, and since the circuit behind it is so meticulously detailed, it has an immediately natural and organic output. Via specially selected germanium diodes, Jackson Audio have made certain that the OD1 is voiced by a clearly present mid-range, making it the perfect setting for leads.
The OD2: Perfect Harmony
Next to OD1, OD2 has been specially developed to shape a flat and balanced sound across all frequencies, setting it up perfectly for rhythm parts. The OD2 can also be deployed as an extra boost for OD1, laying on a thick, extra-rich drive. Meanwhile, due to the convenient top-mounted sockets, The Optimist is easily integrated into the most complex rigs, and even includes a MIDI port that offers full, in-depth control over the functions.
