Let loose in 2008, and directly based on the 1988 original, the second edition of the Proco RAT pedal gives you every bit of the classic and fluffy yet defined distortion you've been dreaming of - and all for a more-than-modest investment. Dial in the quality of sound that legends are made of via the simple three-pot layout and scan through everything from a light and subtle drive to the ultimate, fierce and fur-coated distortion. And it doesn't matter whether you keep it on, use it as your shredding channel or as your lead boost, this is the V4-B RAT2, and since it is based on the 1988-vintage V4-A RAT2, it comes fitted with a happy little red LED that actually lets you know whether it's active or not. Power the RAT2 with a standard 9V 2.1 barrelled daisy-chain or power supply and easily introduce it to your pedalboard.

Zeer veelzijdig, bij lagere distortion en hoge filter heb je een zeer goede overdrive en als je de distortion hoger zet dan heb je ook echt lekkere zware distortion. Bouw kwaliteit is zeer goed en stevig, vrijwel helemaal uit staal gemaakt. En leuke toevoeging van de glow in de dark logo voor in donkere zalen tijden het giggen. Zeer tevreden mee.

Wat een prettig weerzien!! Ik had er zo'n twintig geleden net zo eentje, en hij klinkt nog steeds even cool. Superrobuust gebouwd pedaal, en de klank is zeer geschikt voor hardrock, grunge, doomriffs en smoothe leads met een goeie dosis sustain. Ben er heel blij mee.

Gekocht na het zien van een interview met Nuno Bettencourt waarin hij uitlegt hoe hij tot zijn geluid komt. Nuno gebruikt 'm als filter en niet zozeer voor de distortion (distortion bijna op 0, filter in het midden, volume op 7-8). De distortion/drive komt van de versterker en de RAT geeft het net iets extra's. Zelf zet ik de distortion van de RAT op 3-4 aangezien ik vaak met pickups speel met een lage output (Dimarzio HS-3). Dat werkt wat mij betreft ook goed. Veel gitaarversterkers hebben net niet genoeg gain voor lage output pickups vind ik. Verder prima prijs ook en snel geleverd!

Deze distortion kan veel, ondanks de weinige knoppen. Door de gain-knop kan je van high-gain fuzz-achtige distortion helemaal terug tot een kleine boost-overdrive. De filter knop is erg handig omdat het pedaal uit zichzelf wat schel kan klinken. Door de lowpass-filter wat hoger te zetten haal je deze schelheid er uit, en met de filter helemaal omhoog vind ik het zelfs een beetje als een tube-screamer klinken. Zeker een aanrader voor een goed distortion geluid, al helemaal in combinatie met de stevige behuizing en redelijke prijs.
