General
The littleBits Electronics Synth Kit modular synthesizer is a box with twelve modules, resulting from a collaboration between Korg and littleBits. Each module has its own function and represents a typical analogue synthesizer component (envelope, oscillator, etc.). By combining the individual modules as you see fit, you can build unique sound machines. The modules are built in such a way that you can create a fun instrument without the need for a lot of technical (or musical) know-how. The Synth Kit comes with an instruction booklet that tells you all about the different modules, and features step by step instructions for ten different projects, like creating a keytar or a turntable.
Synth Kit: DIY synth
You can make unique instruments by combining the different parts together, but you won't need to learn how to solder to do so. The modules can be connected with magnets at the sides, and they're all colour coded for easy reference. Your own unique machine is just a couple of clicks away. When it's done, your instrument will produce sound through the synth speaker module. However, you can also connect headphones, a mixer or a sound system to the module via the 3.5mm stereo mini jack connector.
Korg MS-20
The parts that make up the Synth Kit basically form a trimmed-down version of a Korg MS-20. However, the 12 modules offer plenty of possibilities to create a wide range of sounds - from deep, warm basses and percussive ticks and tocks, to crazy sweeps, leads and arpeggios. It's the ideal instrument for music schools that offer sound design courses. Challenge yourself
