Slow-growing North American maple wood was once again used for the Renown 2016 edition. This particular species of maple is known for its excellent resonance properties. The four shells were constructed from 7 thin layers after which the edges were rounded at a 30-degree angle. To give the kettles a focused sound, this set was fitted with 302 tension edges. These tension edges are similar to die-cast edges, but they are a bit lighter in weight and a bit less rigid. This gives the kettles a bit more 'breathing room' and allows them to resonate better.
