Back in the day, you'd be jazz drummer or a rock drummer but today, drummers are expected to play everything and anything. Reason enough for Gretsch to design a shell set suitable for jazz ballad brush playing as well as pounding metal, resulting in their Renown Series drum kits known for their versatility and good looks. This 4-piece shell set excludes a snare drum, cymbals and hardware. Since you're not limited by a standard configuration, you can add your own favourite snare drum and cymbals. This Gretsch Drums Renown 2016 Edition is finished in Silver Oyster Pearl and includes a 22 x 18 inch bass drum, 10 x 7 and 12 x 8 toms and a 16 x 14 inch floor toms.

For the 2016 Renown Edition, Gretsch once again turned to North American maple, as this specific type is known to provide excellent resonance. All four shells feature a 7-ply construction and rounded, 30-degree bearing edges. For a focussed sound, this set has also been fitted with 302 hoops. These look a lot like die-cast hoops but are lighter in weight and a little less rigid, allowing the shell more breathing room for enhanced resonance.
