The Dato DUO, a synthesiser for young children, is quite a popular product. There are 'adult' synths we sell fewer of. Dato is a Dutch company that really keeps the perceptions of young children in sharp focus. At the same time, the company does not make toys, it really is something that interfaces with synths in the grown-up world. So what could be more fun than yet another new child-friendly device from this Utrecht-based manufacturer! The Dato Drum is a reality, and guess what: this is a drum computer.

Features of the Dato Drum

In a way, as an adult, you may well see a conventional drum computer in it. After all, more products have been made in the past that have a circular flow. But, a closer look reveals that this is really a fun drummer for kids after all. Tempo? A dial with a turtle and a hare - just like on the DUO. Volume: a mouse and an elephant. A random button? Dice. There are eight steps, and you can sequence several sounds at once. Even more fun: you can have it run at the same pace as the Dato DUO.

For the kids, but not childish

We mentioned the icons, which are funny in themselves. And at the same time: it is remarkably not childish. A turtle and a hare, for instance, are small one-coloured icons that you can still chuckle at as an adult, it's not like it has a huge cartoon franchise in it, it's not a princess drummer or a superhero drummer. It's something that far surpasses the level of real toys. And that makes it quite a gift that lasts longer than a year, and that's nice for the parents too, of course. Because it's not a toy store price, so for the parents it feels good that it doesn't disappear at the bottom of the toy box after six months. Even better: we wouldn't be surprised if those parents like the device themselves. Because make no mistake: the Dato Drum is not junk from the toy shop, it is just an easy drum computer that is child-friendly. Maybe there is a DJ/producer who will actually use the Dato Drum in a track one day, because this product definitely has that potential!
