The Frankenstein is without a shred of doubt Eddie van Halen's most iconic guitar, and following the premium-priced Frankstrat of 2013, EVH present a more attainable version of the Striped Series Frankie guitar, and here, it comes wrapped up in a matching Wolfgang / Striped Series gig bag. Thankfully, all of the quintessential characteristics of the original model have been carried over, which means you're getting a satin-gloss lacquer-coated axe with a satisfying 'relic' finish. The pickup routing is laid bare, with a Wolfgang humbucker fitted at the bridge and a disconnected single-coil at the neck to complete a fully authentic, visual effect.

The Striped Series Frankie: Roasted Maple Neck with Played-In Feel

While it's no broken piece of vinyl this time around, the partial pickguard has been mounted with a single volume control with a tone control cap - an essential Frankie detail. The bolt-on roasted maple neck has been given a special oil-rub finish for a superb, butter-smooth feel, which is supported by the consistent and controlled feel of the 12 to 16-inch compound radius. Logically, EVH have outfitted Frankie with a dive-only Floyd Rose locking tremolo bridge and a matching R3 locking nut; accommodating deep bends while maintaining stable tuning, and since it comes armed with a D-Tuna, this icon of a model can drop to D-tuning at the literal flick of a switch.
