Fender Japan Special Edition ’62 Telecaster Bigsby Black RW
I recently purchased this guitar having never seen or played it before. It was the appearance that hooked me at first, especially the Bigsby bridge and I thought it would be a great 'tool' to have at my disposal without having to go through the hassle of getting one fitted etc. and I have never owned a Telecaster so it was a case of kill two with one.
I have played plenty of these guitars in the past and as soon as I started to play it, it oozed everything typical about a Telecaster; very chunky sounding and things like the vintage-style machine heads made it all the more authentic to look at it. I have gigged with it a few times already and my bandmates have commented on what a sound it has.
The Bigbsy is subtle and works a treat for me as I'm not constantly dive-bombing, but if that's what you're after then the Bigsby is not for you.
Changing the strings is a bit challenging at first if you're not used to a Bigsby. This was quite irritating for me as I go through a lot more strings than most people, breaking the first one after only 3 days of receiving the guitar! However there are plently or tutorials and whatnot online but the way I see it, it's worth it for the Bigsby!
The intonation is near enough spot on and that's straight out of the box (I'm assuming it wasn't set up before I played it and that's also according to the specifications information) but I'm going to get the action lowered and a couple of other things but these are all personal adjustments.
All in all I'm well chuffed with this beauty and having played a Strat as my go to guitar for many years I think that might be about to change.... !
