General

Shure's patented Dualdyne mic is engineered first and foremost for live use and vocal performances, which are both susceptible to disruptive background noises. Nothing is worse than experiencing feedback or interference caused by other devices in the vicinity! The Shure KSM8 effectively eliminates this problem thanks to functions like roll-off filters and presence peak pads.

KSM8: the Dualdyne principle

The principle behind the Dualdyne mechanism is that there are two very thin diaphragms integrated into the microphone cartridge. One of the diaphragms is active while the other is passive and an inverted air stream isolates and enhances the two diaphragms. The pneumatic shock mount prevents handling noises from being captured without having an adverse effect on the low-frequency range. As well as all these internal features, the KSM8 has a dent-proof, hardened carbon grille combined with a special hydrophobic woven fabric that functions as a water-repellent pop filter.

If you weren't already impressed with the KSM8's comprehensive features, then you'll be thrilled to know it also functions as a wireless transmitter in combination with the Axient, UHF-R, ULX-D and QLX-D wireless systems. This is also available as a wireless capsule so you can use it with other wireless systems by Shure. This KSM8 transmitter comes in a brushed nickel finish for the ULX-D and UHF-R wireless systems.

So this mic is expensive, and it's dynamic, but I honestly believe just like the unidyne capsule became an iconic sound, the dualdyne technology is a leap forward. Mostly suited to live vocals, it's also a great mic for a small home studio. The sound is crisp and clear and the mic continues to suprise me sonically. It's bright but not overbearing and has practically eliminated the proximity effect, allowing you to get unparalleled sound on stage. Did I mention its beautiful? In terms of looks, it's outstanding. In terms of quality, it's a Shure mic, it's ridiculously engineered. There is no handling noise if you're going stand free. A generational leap in capsule design, a stunning finish and the level of build quality you expect. A modern classic. Dualdyne. Incredible.

Na vele jaren trouwe dienst is mijn vertrouwde Shure SM58 letterlijk in tweeën gebroken, waardoor ik op zoek moest naar een vervanger. De Dualdyne-technologie wekte mijn nieuwsgierigheid en bleek een bijzonder gelukkige keuze.
De microfoon elimineert het nabijheidseffect effectief, precies zoals beschreven, en dankzij het cardioïde richtingspatroon is hij ideaal voor zingen in (zeer) rumoerige omgevingen.

Ook de keuze voor de nickel-uitvoering bleek een goede beslissing: het oog wil tenslotte ook wat.
Tijdens mijn eerste optreden merkte ik een duidelijke verbetering in de beheersing van feedback en in de vermindering van ongewenste achtergrondgeluiden.
Bovendien biedt hij, voor iemand die tegelijk zingt en gitaar speelt, meer bewegingsvrijheid, zonder het risico onbedoeld in de bekende “boom” van het proximity-effect terecht te komen.

Ik ben erg tevreden over het natuurlijke geluid, dat mijn akoestische act authenticiteit geeft, en over de uitstraling, die ook in informele situaties een goede indruk maakt, bijvoorbeeld wanneer een toeschouwer even het woord neemt.
Wat mij betreft kloppen de claims van Shure over deze microfoon volledig. Ik ben er zeer tevreden over en vind de prijs-kwaliteitsverhouding goed en gerechtvaardigd.
