Striking details include an engraved portrait of the artist on the neck plate and an autograph on the back of the reversed headstock. Jimi Hendrix's custom to turn his guitars upside down was key to creating his unique sound. He was a left-handed guitarist, but his father pushed him to play right-handed. Whenever dad Al Hendrix turned his back, however, young James Marshall turned his guitar on its axis and changed the string nut and strings. To emulate the look of an inverted guitar, Fender fitted this Fender Artist Signature Strat with a reversed headstock and bridge pickup. As an added benefit, the reversed headstock changes the string tension, keeping the low strings nice and tight, while making the high strings easy to bend.
