Product information

General

Plucked out of the later half of the '50s and firmly planted in the present, the Gibson Original Collection Les Paul Standard 50s, solid mahogany single-cut boasts an era-accurate playing feel founded on the slimmer, thinner Vintage '50s profile of the set-in mahogany neck. This all-American LP STD also bears a classic 12" fretboard radius, a rosewood fretboard, and a set of familiar medium jumbo frets to sure-up the fluid playing feel, while the stability is assured by the ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, Aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece, and Vintage Deluxe Keystone tuners.

The Les Paul Standard '50s: Burstbucker Pickups

It nearly goes without saying that this classically styled Gibson LP solidbody comes finished with a maple top to complete a tonal foundation that hits that much-loved, warm and full, mid-frequency-rich sweet spot with precisely the right amount of definition. This is then firmly amplified by the mounted pair of double-coil Burstbucker pickups that shape that thick, robust and deliciously rough-edged humbucker tone, all fully backed up by the time-approved set of pots complete with Orange Drop capacitors and a 3-way switch.

Gibson Original Collection Les Paul Standard 50s Tobacco Burst Electric Guitar with Case

I recently ordered an Epiphone from Bax which was amazing! I couldn’t resist getting this Les Paul! The quality is out of this world! No issues with Gibsons set up and checks! It’s stunning and has a really nice fat neck

Gibson Original Collection Les Paul Standard 50s Tobacco Burst Electric Guitar with Case

Well, buying a Gibson Les Paul was a life dream, so cannot say that I am not biased, you have been warned. Service from BAX Music was very good, guitar arrived exactly the next day as promised.

Now about the guitar, it has a really good weight to it therefore this is not a light one. The neck size is large but still comfortable even for players with smaller hands like myself. The action and intonation was set perfectly, no wonder, Gibson is using Plek machines for cutting the nut and frets. The pickups are sounding amazing. Warm and bright at the same time, lots of dynamics. I mostly play this guitar through a Marshall JCM 800. The range of the tone pots is also quite wide.

Stuff I did not like; for the price, frets could have been polished from the factory. Guitar had tool marks on the binding of the neck and there were a couple of shallow dents on the fretboard. Despite this I kept the guitar because I could fix most of these issues (apart from the really shallow dents on the fretboard) and to be honest considering the reviews I found online, I do not think Gibson can do better.

Could I have bought a better guitar for this amount of money, yes I could; but I do like the heavy and thick feel of a Les Paul.
