The Line 6 James Tyler Variax guitar puts forth an entire arsenal of different sounds. It might look like an ordinary electric guitar with two powerful humbuckers, but underneath its blood-red skin hides a highly advanced digital tone system that allows you to hop from high-gain metal sounds to that of an acoustic guitar, and to sway between spotlessly clean tones and a wide range of legendary guitar model emulations.

JTV-89F: a Variax with a Floyd Rose tremolo

The Line 6 James Tyler JTV-89F Variax is the blood-red version of one of the Variax metal-guitar models with a Licensed Floyd Rose tremolo made by Graph Tech. The Floyd Rose allows you to bend the tone (and this can be the tone of a metal axe or a sitar, for instance) this way and that without jeopardising the guitar's tuning. What's more, a Variax allows you to change tuning immediately (Drop D, for instance) with the turn of a knob.

A highly versatile electric guitar

You can use the included Variax Workbench software to assemble a virtual guitar - choose a body type, pickups and a tuning and play it via the Variax. No matter which guitar entity you play, you will be amazed by the JTV-89F's smooth playability that is largely due to its fast neck and two octaves of jumbo frets.

Fijne gitaar goede speeleigenschappen. De elementen klinken vol. Gewoon als gitaar een lekker ding.
De moddeling is een leuk extraatje. De geluiden geven een goed karakter van de gitren die ze vertegenwoordigen. De moddeling levert wel veeeeeeeeeel gain. Dat is in de software of via de hd500 goed te temmen.

De gitaar heeft wel wat stemmingen. Drop D, half down full down. Zijn erg bruikbaar en klinken erg natuurlijk.

Natuurlijk moet je een nieuwe gitaar afstellen. Ik maak het nooit mee dat de instelling gelijk goed is. Dat is namelijk ook afhankelijk van je manier van spelen.

Ik ben er erg gelukkig mee zeker in combinatie met de hd500x en de L2t speaker, welke ik al langer in bezit heb.

Wrote the following about Line 6 JTV-89F James Tyler Variax electric guitar Blood Red

Onlangs besteld maar geretourneerd. Ik heb de variax vergeleken met een Gibson SG Standard en een Sqiuer stratocaster. De gitaar is mooi afgewerkt maar standaard niet best afgesteld. De stringlocks waren nog niet aangedraaid waardoor de gitaar voortdurend ontstemde. Na het vastzetten was dit wel prima. De bespeelbaarheid viel mij t.o.v. de SG ook tegen, hoge actie en dunne hals maar dit is een persoonlijke smaak. De Floyd Rose tremolo werkt perfect na het aandraaien van de stringlocks. Het standaard geluid valt niet tegen maar is ook niet geweldig. Vergelijk het met een goedkopere Ibanez RG. De tussenstanden bij de 5 standenschakelaar geven standaard geen Fenderachtig geluid, jammer. In de digitale modus zijn er veel keuzes in gitaarmodellen. Wat mij opvalt is dat Line6 kiest voor veel in plaats van kwaliteit, net zoals bij de spidervalve versterkers. Er zitten bijv. 2 Les Paul modellen in. Pak er dan een en laat deze dan ook klinken als een Les Paul. Ook het strat en telecaster geluid vielen tegen in vergelijking met zelfs een Squier. Wat betreft warmte en sprankeling legde het digitale gedeelte het in alle opzichten af tegen de vergelijkingsgitaren. Er zitten nog wel een leuke banjo en citar op, maar zit je daar op te wachten als je een goede veelzijdige gitaar zoekt? Het aparte tunergedeelte is wel mooi, je kunt zelfs eigen stemmingen in programmeren. Conclusie: als je geen andere gitaar ter vergelijking hebt is het een leuke gitaar. Zou ik echter zou moeten kiezen en een veelzijdige gitaar, dan zou ik gaan voor een duurdere Ibanez of iets dergelijks. Ik moet Bax wel weer waarderen om hun uitstekende service.
