The Squier Vintage Modified Stratocaster '70s has the same features as the famous Fender Stratocaster with added classic looks like a vintage-tinted neck, large '70s-style headstock and a Vintage White finish. The classic Strat
The famous Strat was born in the fifties and is the Telecaster's younger brother. The Stratocaster's three pickups and the vibrato tremolo bridge allow for more tonal possibilities than the Tele. This Squier Vintage Modified '70s Stratocaster is fitted with Duncan SC-101 pickups that produce an elegant, clear sound and have that distinctively nasal tone when you combine two pickups. This guitar is also available with a black body and pickguard.
The Squier brand

Many manufacturers have imitated these guitars in various price ranges. Het eerste exemplaar dat ik ontving had plekken in de lak, hardware die niet goed zat en was zodoende ook niet zuiver te krijgen, dus ging weer terug. Het tweede exemplaar was er al beter aan toe, had echter last van een extreem slippende hoge e-snaar en lichte beschadiging aan de hals-socket.
De gitaar speelt verder ontzettend fijn en is qua klank absoluut niet slecht. In vergelijking met een MIM Fender strat hoor je echter dat deze Squier toch wat dunner qua sound is en een mindere respons heeft. Niet slecht, maar wel een tegenvaller t.o.v. wat ik van Squier gewend ben. Als Bax zelf een betere kwaliteitscontrole zou doen van producten die ze stuurt, zou dit al een hoop ellende schelen.

Uit de doos speelde de gitaar al prima, maar na een afstelbeurtje van de trussrod, saddle hoogte en intonatie speelt hij heerlijk.
Voor de gemiddelde gitarist is er bar weinig verschil te merken tussen deze gitaar en een Mex of USA stratocaster.
Voordelen:
Goed afgewerkt, goeie resonantie, goed afstelbaar, nagenoeg identieke Fender geluid uit de Duncan Designed pickups...
Nadelen:
Bij mijn exemplaar heb ik iets meer fretbuzz dan ik zou willen met de saddles in hoge stand. Ik zou de brug 2mm moeten verhogen om hem volledig naar wens af te stellen. Of dit een uitzondering of standaard is, kan ik niet beoordelen.
Al met al: de beste gitaar aanschaf in jaren en elke cent waard.
