The CoolTube CTP-3 differs from 'regular' built-in preamps thanks to the use of a 12AU7 tube, which runs on a low voltage and doesn't get hot (hence the name). The tube adds a few welcome layers of warmth to the amplified sound, and even if you do feel like certain frequencies need a bit of tweaking, there's always the highly extensive tone controls section. Using the auxiliary input and volume control, the TC132SC can also be upgraded with a second pickup for an even more versatile sound.
