General
If you've been drumming for a while and feel like your current kit is in need of an update, then you may well be ready for the Roland TD-50K V-Drums drum kit. It offers a wide array of sound options for serious (semi) professional drummers.
TD-50 drum module
At the heart of this electronic set, you'll find the Roland TD-50 drum module. Thanks to its 'Prismatic Sound Modelling' technology, each and every detail of your playing is captured and translated with the right samples. With the TD-50 drum module, you can add effects to individual pads or the master channel, which means you have total control over reverb, volume, velocity, EQ and compression. You can even reposition imaginary microphones and overheads! Want to record a quick session and listen to it later? Simply press the record button and choose whether you want the click track on the recording or not. If you want more editing options, use the included USB cable to connect the module to your computer. With no fewer than ten tracks at your disposal, you can record and edit using your favourite DAW program. The TD-50 drum module also features an SD card reader so you can trigger samples or play along with your favourite songs. Another handy thing about this module is that it has an XLR stereo master output and eight TRS direct outputs. This means you won't be needing a DI box at your gigs, as you can connect this module directly to the PA!
Snare and tom pads
Roland didn't include just any old drum pads with this set! These pads for the snare and the toms have mesh heads which provide a natural rebound that feel like the real thing. The problem with many electronic kits is the lack of sound possibilities and variations, but Roland has set a new standard in multi-trigger systems with the TD-50K. Because the PD-140DS snare pad houses numerous sensors, the drum module knows exactly where you hit it. If you strike it towards the edge, the sound becomes higher and thinner. This effect is especially audible when you play rim shots. If you use the entirety of your stick, you get a rich, fat rim shot. If you only use the tip, it'll sound higher with more sustain. Rim clicks sound great too. This technique is something advanced drummers are probably more aware of than novices, but in any case, it's one to take advantage of! Another great feature of these pads is that they can be used with brushes too! The bass drum pedal is not included.
Cymbal pads
Just like the other pads, the cymbal pads in this kit are also equipped with multiple triggers with the CY-18DR ride being the most expressive. First of all, it boasts the same playability as an acoustic thanks to a diameter of 18 inches. The way it moves when struck is also very authentic. Just like with acoustic cymbals, the sound you hear depends on how and where you hit it. You can even mute the sound by choking them! Playing the hi-hat open or half-open also makes it feel more natural, and you have full control of your sound as a result.
Tips or comments about this product
- The MDS-50K rack and hardware for snare and hi-hat are not included.
- With mesh heads, we recommend using nylon-tip drum sticks only. A (slightly) splintered wooden tip can damage the head.
- The actual included rack is an improved model and differs from the one seen in the images.
