The Heritage Audio Motorcity EQ is a 7-band passive equaliser. It is based on an originally cinema eq that was further developed by Motown engineer Mike Mclean into the legendary Motown EQ to which many a Motown hit owes its impact. Actually, it was a graphic eq with faders but those faders were not very reliable in the 60s so he replaced them with the iconic bakelite knobs we also know from, for example, the Pultec EQ. Even contemporary engineers still have a special place in their hearts for the MotorCity EQ. Multiple Grammy winner Michael Brauer is one of them. The Heritage Audio MotorCity EQ is therefore an outright copy of Michael Brauer's copy.

The seven bands each have a carefully chosen central frequency band with a musical curve that never gets sharp or starts to resonate. On the right-hand side we find a gain knob that can be used to compensate for any volume difference. Useful if your signal also encounters a compressor further down the chain.
