Apogee Ensemble Thunderbolt interface

Fijne interface, en met de nieuwe software kun je ook gemakkelijk presets opslaan die je bij een project gebruikt. Op die manier kun je makkelijk routings maken en wanneer nodig weer terugladen.
De kwaliteit is gewoon goed, en ook communicatie met externe apparaten verloopt easy. De software heeft wel eens wat gehaperd maar is intussen weer stabiel, hier heeft Apogee op geupdate.

Let wel even op dat het de intussen 'oude' thunderbolt versie betreft, voor de nieuwe macbooks heb je een verloopje nodig. Maar ook daarmee werkt het goed. De doorlinkmogelijkheid is ook handig, je kunt het volgende apparaat ook via thunderbolt weer aansluiten (bijvoorbeeld een scherm)

Apogee Ensemble Thunderbolt interface

Na jarenlang met de ensemble 1 gewerkt te hebben is de ensemble thunderbolt niets minder dan een openbaring. Op alle punten verbeterd en uitgebreid, ultra transparante pre-amps (8!) en ad/da conversie, meer i/o, extra adat poorten, gitaar outputs voor re-ampen, oled display, etc, etc. Hele fijne upgrades vind ik de high end headphone amps (daar koop je normaal een dedicated amp voor), de monitor functies met bijv. mutes op alle potmeters, de extra submixers in maestro en natuurlijk thunderbolt. Op mijn MacBook retina mid 2014 is de 1,1ms RTL niet echt bruikbaar, maar output latency op softsynths is nog altijd indrukwekkend met niet meer dan een paar ms. Voor het maximum heb je dus wel een snelle(re) Mac nodig. De interface werkt tot nu toe volkomen stabiel. Maestro heeft af en toe nog steeds moeite om de ensemble te herkennen uit slaapstand, dat had de E1 ook. Andere minpuntjes: de display is niet echt helder en de talkback mic ruist en bromt behoorlijk. Weet niet of dit exemplarisch is of een kenmerk van de ensemble. Ik had ook graag combo jacks gezien voor inputs 5-8. Reken ook op aanschaf van een thunderbolt kabel en een db25 breakout kabel. Verder ontbreekt vreemd genoeg een EU netsnoer. Bottomline is dat de nieuwe ensemble een waanzinnig klinkende interface is, zeker als je van een middenklasse interface komt is het alsof er een sluier wordt opgetrokken. Het is een dure interface maar m.i. iedere euro waard.
