General
The Red 8Pre is a 19-inch rack-sized audio interface by Focusrite Pro with a lightning fast Thunderbolt 2 interface. That means you can record latency-free audio of the highest quality. The 8Pre also has two mini-DigiLink ports that let you work seamlessly with Core Audio and Pro Tools applications. Eight Red Evolution preamps, which are known throughout the world for their superior sound quality, are on board too. The preamps also include Focusrite's 'Air' effect that gives the sound a subtle mid-high boost.
Flexible
In addition to the eight digital preamps, the Red 8Pre features 64 inputs and 64 outputs that include 16 analogue inputs and 18 analogue outputs. That should be enough to satisfy the demands of those who need all the connections they can get. It's possible to plug an instrument directly into one of the two high-headroom inputs on the front, which have no problem dealing with instruments that have a high output. The jewel in the crown however, has to be the audio-over-IP functionality via Dante, and there are further possibilities for expansions using ADAT.
Comprehensive Software Package
The Red 8Pre comes with the new RedNet Control software that gives extensive routing and monitor management possibilities. The Softube software bundle includes powerful tools for mixing and mastering in the form of the Time and Tone plugins. Also included is the Drawmer S73 Intelligent Master Processor, the TSAR-1R Reverb, the Tube Delay and the Saturation Knob. Finally, there's also the Focusrite Red Plug-in Suite which includes a number of precisely-simulated hardware classics like the EQs and the compressors from the Red 2 and 3 series.
