General
Last year, IK Multimedia introduced us to the AXE I/O audio interface and the guitar world rejoiced. Now they treat us all to the AXE I/O Solo: a feature packed interface, completely dedicated to the guitar. This 2-in and 3-out USB interface is backed up by a PURE microphone preamp, an instrument input with a 'tone shaping' control (exclusive to the Solo), and an 'Amp Out' for re-amping DI signals. The AXE I/O Solo supports 24-bit/192 kHz AD/DA conversion; realising any session guitarist's wet dream, while an active/passive pickup selector switch is fitted to properly match the output of your guitar with the input of this mighty interface.
The IK Multimedia AXE I/O Solo: Added Value
The PURE and JFET circuits that form part of the guts of this interface can be used to shape a clean or coloured signal path, and the impedance can be adjusted and experimented with according to the input of your instrument and the sound you're looking for. What's also unique to the Solo (especially considering its price), is the inclusion of a Blend control that mixes the direct input signal with the shaped signal - ideal for live monitoring. And, since this interface was made for guitarists, two inputs for pedals and switches have been fitted as well as a MIDI in and out, and a copy of the excellent AmpliTube 4 Deluxe even comes thrown in, giving you access to a vast array of virtual amplifiers that would usually cost you over £300!
