IK Multimedia's Axe I/O One audio interface is a flexible, user-friendly recording device designed for guitarists, bassists and other musicians in need of a high-quality recording solution. An excellent bit of kit for beginners and pros alike, the Axe I/O One features IK's patented Z-TONE adjustable impedance circuit, allowing you to toggle between pure-and-transparent sound and warm, analogue sound at the twist of a control. What's more, the single input comes with a built-in tuner and adjustable level amplification, which make it a lot easier to get great sound without the need for any additional equipment.

High-Quality Preamp, AD/DA Conversion and Tone-Shaping Options

Other important features include a built-in phantom power supply, a Pure/JFET switch for switching between vintage and modern sound, and an Active/Passive switch that can be set depending on the pickups of your guitar or bass. Meanwhile, the high-quality microphone preamp inside the Axe I/O One ensures crisp, low-noise recordings of vocals and acoustic instruments. I'm leaving this review in case it helps someone who comes across the same issues I had getting the AXE I/O One to work. I couldn't get my PC to recognise the AXE I/O when connected to the USB ports on the rear of my PC. I tried a few things and was about to return the product when I tried the front USB ports and it worked fine! The difference? The rear ports on my PC are USB3 and use a Via chipset, the USB ports on the front of my PC are USB2 and use the Intel motherboard chipset. It might be particular to my computer but if you do have any issues try different USB ports! And the unit itself...

I was shocked to hear the difference the AX I/O One made to my guitar sound. The Z Tone is a revelation, turn it to the brighter setting for clean sounds and the darker setting for high gain sounds and it just feels and sounds incredible. I have some good modern sound interfaces but after using the AXE I/O One I don't think I could go back to using any of them. The software bundle is good (although I haven't tried Live! as I use Cakewalk), both Amplitube and the included version of Tonex have some good sounds.

The AXE I/O one also has midi and a really useful function where you can connect a footswitch or an expression pedal and control features of your plugins. It works and is very cool.

So: a great interface if it works for you, just remember it has a single channel so can only record one thing at a time!

Geweldig ding voor beginnende gitaristen die op een simpele en eenvoudige manier hun geluid willen opnemen en aanpassen op een pc. Werkt makkelijk en is niet te duur. Alles zit erbij wat je nodig hebt, En de handleiding en het installatieproces is duidelijk.

Game changer voor guitarist.
Ik gebruik deze interface alleen voor guitar opnames een dit werk perfect. De sound in virtuele Amps is echt veel beter.

Diverse problemen met deze interface, hopelijk hebben anderen er minder last van. Allereerst jammer dat er geen aan/uit knop op zit. Op zich niet zo'n probleem zou je zeggen maar het device ging bij mij alleen uit als ik de PC van het lichtnet af haalde, dus daadwerkelijk stekker er uit, uitzetten van de PC was niet voldoende. Daarbij kwam ook nog eens dat mijn monitor bleef denken dat er iets te zien moest zijn dus die ging ook niet meer uit, was alleen op standby te zetten. Software geinstalleerd (wat zonder registratie niet lukt, onhandig bij doorverkoop. Het idee achter Amplitube is best aardig maar de gratis software (SE en CS) is eigenlijk onbruikbaar omdat veel devices en amps dan weer niet gratis zijn. (Dat zelfde geldt voor het meegeleverde Tonex.) Amplitube werkte ook niet naar behoren omdat het scherm bij mij niet aan te passen was waardoor er buttons schijnbaar niet zichtbaar waren waarmee het programma alleen kon worden afgesloten met de Windows Task Manager (End Task). Ik heb een resolutie van 2560x1440. Tonex, leuk idee maar ook weer onbruikbaar omdat er weliswaar via Tonex allerlei settings kunnen worden gedownload maar wederom onbruikbaar omdat er amps en stompboxen gebruikt zijn waar je nu net niet over beschikt. Verder heb ik geen mogelijkheden gevonden hoe settings op te slaan via Tonex. Het idee achter Amplitube en Tonex is best leuk maar de software is lastig te doorgronden en niet erg intuitief. Ook het hele model van achteraf zaken moeten bijkopen spreekt me niet erg aan. (Money pit)

Maar goed, ik heb de interface sowieso niet aangeschaft vanwege de software die er bij zit, dus over naar de hardware. Z-Tone, JFET, Pure en de Active/Passive settings op de interface zijn best aardig maar voor een purist als ik ben niet besteed aan mij. Ik vond het ook niks positiefs toevoegen aan het geluid. Na een paar uur kwam ik er vervolgens achter dat de interface moeite heeft met verschillende sample rates. Als ik met met mijn DAW zaken had opgenomen op 96K en dan vervolgens iets op YouTube wilde zien dan ging YouTube over zijn nek met Audio Rendering errors en moest ik mijn PC resetten. Mijn vorige interface (Scarlett I2/4) had daar geen probleem mee en de MOTU M4 die ik nu heb ook niet. Latency was trouwens ook vrij hoog tijdens opnames. Was ook niet echt onder de indruk van de geluidskwaliteit. Ik denk dat IK Mulimedia iets langer de tijd had moeten nemen voor ze het device op de markt brachten.

Alhoewel de naamgeving doet vermoeden dat dit een afgeslankte versie is van de IKMultimedia AXE I/O, blijkt dus dat dit model geen class complaint interface heeft wat de duurdere AXE I/O wel heeft. Dus ik kreeg dit nieuwe model niet aan de praat op een IOS device. En dat is best wel jammer, want de AXE One is een heel stuk compacter en had mooi op mijn pedalboard gepast. Vandaar de 3 sterren. De werking met een Mac of Windows laptop zal daarentegen best goed zijn.
