General

It's been a few years since Devine treated the world to the beginner-friendly MR-5A monitor, and now, taking things a giant step up, they drop the RX Series studio monitors, including the RX-5. Available as single units, these monitors can be used to set up a 5.1 or even 7.1 system and each comes supported by magnetic shielding as well as signal overload protection and provides the ultimate flexibility of TS/TRS jack, RCA, and XLR ports so they can be directly connected up to a good audio interface.

The Devine RX-5A

The Devine RX-5A has a 55Hz to 20kHz frequency response which, for a monitor loaded with a 5.5-inch woofer and 1-inch tweeter, is pretty comprehensive. Of course, if your studio space demands a little more depth, then the RX Series includes monitors with a 6 or 8-inch woofer, or you could couple the RX-5A up with the matching RX-10SA subwoofer to add the necessary meat. But, if your production work is focussed on popular music and your studio space is relatively small, then the range offered by this monitor is perfect, and will simply set you up with the neutral and honest audio imaging that's essential for making accurate mixes and lush productions.

Unfortunately can't recommend them as studio monitors, at least for heavy music genres. The sound they make is not clean, rather droning. A lot of bass and mud. On the positive side, they are extremely stylish, build quality is nice, and they may be a good choice if you occasionally want to just listen to music, but not make it.

Als hobby DJ ben ik na lang wikken en wegen voor deze monitor speaker (2 stuks) gegaan. Eerste indruk: de speaker voelt heel degelijk aan, flink gewicht, mooie (diepe) kast, absoluut niet 'cheap'. Omdat ze wit zijn vallen ze wat minder op tegen een witte muur. Uiteraard gaat het om het geluid en die is naar mijn mening erg goed. Ik had vooraf een beetje m'n twijfels maar het zijn heel prettig en vrij neutraal klinkende speakers met geen al te uitgesproken profiel (misschien iets leunend op de lagere frequenties). Helder, aanwezig, degelijk. Meer dan genoeg voor thuis. Uiteraard zijn er enkele details die verraadden dat je wat minder hebt betaald, bijvoorbeeld de wat rommelige witte verf dieper in de bas-poort, het verlichte logo aan de voorkant. Maar al met al dik tevreden. Ik raad je aan om ze een eerlijke kans te geven. Prijs-kwaliteit verhouding is uitstekend!

Als hobby producer zocht ik betaalbare en kwalitatief goede monitors. Die heb ik met de RX-5A zeker gevonden. Ze klinken fantastisch. Mooie laag en ik hoor geluiden wat ik eerder nooit heb gehoord op mijn Creative T40.
