General
Because of its stable drivers, high audio quality, extensive options and great reliability, Motu's 828 is an immensely popular sound card. Having been revised quite a bit over the years, the MOTU 828X is now fitted with a Thunderbolt as well as USB 2.0 connection. This interface features 28 inputs and 30 outputs, among which are two microphone preamps with phantom power, and a DSP processor for on-board effects and zero-latency monitoring.
828X: The Many Many Inputs and Outputs
Despite its compact size, the Motu 828X features countless connector options: two combo inputs for microphone or instruments with high-quality, neutral preamps, eight balanced analogue inputs and outputs, XLR main outputs, a headphone output, 16 channels ADAT, S/P-DIF, word clock and MIDI. In short, more than enough for all your studio gear including all your hardware effect processors. Use the CueMix digital mixer app for zero-latency monitoring, balancing channels and adding optional effects.
Thunderbolt and USB 2.0
The MOTU 828X features a super-fast Thunderbolt port with a wide bandwidth, allowing you to work with low latency and a sample rate of up to 192 kHz. As some computers don't feature a Thunderbolt port, the MOTU 828X is also equipped with a USB 2.0 connector. It's compatible with USB 3.0, so that you can connect the interface to any laptop and desktop (Mac and Windows).
