Motu 828 (2024) USB3 Audio Interface

General

While there are already too many audio interfaces out there to name, sometimes a model comes along that's actually able to do it all: enter the MOTU 828. With a 28x32 configuration over USB3, this unit brings unprecedented connection options. The MOTU 828 wields acclaimed ESS Sabre32™ DAC technology, making it able to achieve a dynamic range of no-less-than 125 decibels and an extremely low harmonic distortion level - all in the aid of the highest possible audio quality. This interface is compatible with Windows, Mac and even iOS operation systems, all without the need to download and install a driver (for macOS and iOS in the least). Just note that, if you are working with an iOS device, you will need to use a Camera Connection Kit (Lightning Adapter) which doesn't come included as standard.

Near-Unlimited Gear Connections

The MOTU 828 has been primed on every possible level for every possible studio setup. A maximum of sixty simultaneous audio channels are available, so you're free to hook up your analogue synthesizers via MIDI, and you're free to link your outboard effects, your keyboards, your drum machines, your guitars, basses, microphones and even a footswitch - all at the same time. If you find yourself in need of more outputs, everything can be expanded via the optical ADAT input and output ports, giving you an extra sixteen inputs or outputs on top of the 28 inputs and 32 outputs that already come included.

Guitar Re-Amping

You are reading this right: even the option to re-amp your guitars is offered up by the 828. Record a DI signal via the Hi-Z input mounted on the front panel and use CueMix's extreme-low-latency to loop the signal to an output. This way, you can record the DI signal as well as the 'miked' signal at the same time. From there, the dry DI signal can be re-amped via different microphone or amplifier combinations, fully opening up the freedom to experiment. Above all, you don't even need to plug in any leads between recording and re-amping.

Monitor Group & Speaker A/B + Talkback-Function

Via the Monitor Group function, you can monitor a surround setup via a single fader, and the group hands you the full flexibility to select any output to control. Recording sessions with artists can be led in full comfort thanks to the built-in talkback function accessed via the front panel and, so you can quickly compare a mix, two monitor pairs can be connected up to support A/B testing - again, all directly accessed via the front panel. MOTU has even thrown in a copy of CueMix 5, giving you full graphic control over the mix, whether you're working on a Windows, Mac or iOS system.
