General

The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen two-channel interface supports microphone, guitar, bass and line-level signals. Equipped with two outstanding microphone preamps, each boasting a 68 decibel gain range, this interface even supports microphones with a lower output, like dynamic podcasting microphones. Since the two fitted inputs can take microphones, line-level sources and Hi-Z signals, it can be easily configured for an array of different setups. Record vocals and a guitar at the same time. Record a bass and guitar at the same time. With this tight little red box, you can make stereo recordings, and you can even live stream in professional comfort thanks to the built-in loopback function, which makes it possible to loop through and add the sound of other apps to the stream, or record it to your DAW.

Analogue Character

The sound of the Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen interface is initially neutral - until you hit the Air button. This activates a specially developed circuit that coats the microphone channel in a sweet, analogue character, where the mid-frequencies are emphasised while the saturation remains rounded and never sounds too sharp. This feature alone brings the quality of sound close to that of Focusrite/Rupert Neve developed ISA preamps. Basically, you're looking at stunning, studio-quality sound courtesy of a desktop-friendly unit.

Auto Gain & Clip Safe

One of the other stand-out upgrades when compared to the 3rd Gen interfaces is the set of digitally controlled preamps, which ensure automatic and ultra-accurate setting adjustments. Thanks to these preamps, an Auto Gain function pretty much sets the gain levels for you while a smart Clip Safe function prevents volume peaks from distorting your recordings.
