Do you have a GoPro Hero3, 3+ or 4 camera, and have you been dying to experiment with 3D recording? Now you can, with the WEARPRO Mic by Roland! They may look like a set of earplugs, and they are worn like a set of earplugs, but they are actually two little omnidirectional stereo microphones. Because you wear them in your ears, you can make binaural recordings to create that first-person audio perspective. You can hear exactly where sounds are coming from - left, right, above, below - it's as if you are physically there. This binaural experience works especially well when you listen to the recording on a set of headphones. The 3D effect is slightly less audible over a set of stereo speakers, but is impressive nonetheless.
Making professional recordings with the WEARPRO couldn't be easier. The only thing you need to do is connect the WEARPRO to the appropriate GoPro camera using the mini UBS cable. Make sure to insert the right earplug in the right ear, and the left in the left, so you don't get a reversed stereo image. Binaural recording is a technique that requires two microphones that are located about 15 to 20 cm apart, and are often stuck onto the head of a dummy. The idea is to create a 3D stereo sound that will give the listener a first-person audio perspective, as if they were there in person. You may wonder why a dummy's head was used, instead of simply setting the microphones up in close range next to each other. This has to do with natural dampening and distortion that takes place due to the shape of the head. Before audio waves reach your ear drums, they are manipulated by the shape of your ear and aural passage - or did you think your ears were shaped that way purely for decoration? By placing microphones physically inside your ears, the audio is recorded precisely as you would hear it in your ear drums. You simply can't get more realistic than that!
