The Zoom H4n SP is a popular audio recorder that delivers a significant amount of bang for your buck. The compact device (measuring approximately 7 by 15 cm) makes excellent recordings in 24-bit/96kHz resolution, using either its XY stereo microphones or your own external microphones/instruments. The two microphones of the H4n SP have an XY configuration, ensuring a natural, accurate stereo image. By turning the microphones from their 90-degree to their 120-degree position, it's possible to switch from a more focused image to a wider, more spaceous sound. A choice of functions, including a low-cut filter, pre-recording, built-in effects and compressors, turn this Zoom handheld recorder into a comprehensive recording tool.

H4n SP: 4 channels

As the H4n SP has been equipped with two XLR/jack combo inputs, it's possible to connect external microphones or instruments. Try using a musical instrument and a microphone, for instance, or opt for two dynamic or condenser mics, or a guitar and a keyboard. The H4n SP allows you to simultaneously record four separate channels. In that case, it registers both the built-in microphones and the two XLR/jack inputs, enabling you to make exceptionally detailed, rich and accurate microphone recordings. Use the Zoom recorder to its full potential, and you can count on a battery life of approximately six hours, using two AA batteries (included).

Expansion options

The rugged H4n is easy to operate and records to a separately available SD or SDHC memory card in WAV or MP3 format. If you connect the recorder to your PC or Mac by means of a USB cable, you're able to transfer files to your computer, and you can even use the audio recorder as an external sound card. A number of practical accessories are available: the HS-1 hot shoe enables you to mount the recorder on a video/DSLR camera, and additional options include the RC-4 remote control, a microphone stand mount, a windscreen and the AD-14 power adapter. If you want to play back your recordings, you can either use the internal speaker, or connect your headphones to the 3.5mm output. The Zoom H4next SP is supplied with a protective case, so you can take it with you wherever you go without worrying about its safety.
