When it comes to the safe transport of an electric guitar, you basically have two options: a case or a gig bag. Put simply, gig bags support easy travelling, while cases offer ultimate protection.
Electric Guitar Gig Bags
Most fresh-faced guitarists pick up a gig bag on the side when they buy their first electric guitar. So they're easy to carry or even wear backpack-style, almost all gig bags are fitted with one or two shoulder straps. Popular electric guitars such as Gibson's Les Paul models and Fender's Stratocasters and Telecasters will fit practically every universal gig bag, but can also be treated to a matching bag for a little extra peace of mind. As a rule of thumb, remember that the more expensive the bag, the better the protection - usually in the form of thicker padding and stronger materials. Higher-priced gig bags generally also offer more features, like a built-in neck support or extra pockets for accessories like picks, jack leads and songbooks. For guitars with a less common body shape, it's best to go with a made-to-measure gig bag - preferably made by the same brand as your guitar. And, in case you're all about efficiency, it's worth mentioning there are even dual gig bags available that allow you to tote two electric guitars in one go.
