The moment that Metallica kitted out their guitars with active EMG pickups, the name became legend, and in a short time, the EMG 81 bridge humbucker and EMG 85 neck humbucker combo became the standard within the metal-verse. More than twenty years later, the signature “HET” pickup set was developed according to James Hetfield's demands: classic looking pickups that delivered all the perks of active humbuckers plus the warmth and definition of passive pickups. The result is the EMG JH “HET” Set. Install this mighty pair of dual-coils and be assured of no remorse, no regret!

The Best of Both Worlds

One of the biggest differences between these pickups and classic EMGs are the magnetic rods, which don't just give the JH pickups the look of passive models, but also affect the sound. Both humbuckers feature six individual magnetic rods: a layout that supports clean yet non-sterile, life-packed sound, while the bridge pickup is fitted with steel magnets to ensure maximum articulation, and the neck pickup features alnico magnets that shape fuller basses and a boosted output. Just like the original EMG set, these dual-coils are built to handle high-gain settings, however the JH set is better set up to handle light crunches and cleans, giving you the best of both worlds.

Easy Installation

EMG pickups come bundled up with everything needed to convert your guitar into an active model, removing the fear of any nasty mid-installation surprises. 25k volume and tone pots that are specifically calibrated to match these active pickups have been included and have also been prepared for the EMG Quik-Connect system, which doesn't even require any soldering. Since an active set of humbuckers needs a stereo output jack, one of those comes included as well and can also be fitted solder-free. • The EMG Quik-Connect is not compatible with the solder-free systems made by other manufacturers.
• If you own a guitar with an output jack with a long shaft, then you can replace it with a stereo version (sold separately). See package deal below.
• The JH Signature set comes including Short Shaft potentiometers. For guitars with a thick or arched top, Long Shaft potentiometers may be required depending on the thickness of the top.
