The Seymour Duncan Custom Shop The Philip Sayce “Big Daddy” Aged Limited Edition is a 3-piece pickup set for Stratocaster®-style electric guitars. This set is based on the pickups from Philip Sayce’s much-loved vintage “Big Daddy” Strat® and aims to recreate that early ’60s sound: bigger, more muscular and with a solid punch. You get a full-bodied neck pickup, a rich, expressive middle pickup and a bridge pickup with clear output and cutting highs—but without becoming harsh. Everything is built in the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop in the US.

Big Daddy detail: sweet bridge highs

One of the most recognisable characteristics of the original instrument is the bridge pickup, where ageing has subtly rounded off the treble. Seymour Duncan replicates this with a special micro-capacitor design: a 75 pF capacitor on the bridge pickup that shifts the resonance in a musical way. The result is a crisp Strat® bite that never becomes shrill, ideal for dynamic playing, firm picking and open chords. Thanks to Alnico V magnets, the overall sound remains tight and direct, with that recognisable vintage feel.

Limited edition, aged and supplied complete

To mark the 1963 build year, this release is limited to 630 sets worldwide and features an artificially ‘aged’ finish for that authentic, well-played look. The set comes with a certificate of authenticity, signed by Philip Sayce and Seymour W. Duncan. Please note: as with many replacement Strat® pickups, the shape and size may vary slightly, and a minor adjustment may be required. Please also note that pickups are non-returnable if the wires have been cut or soldered, or if they are damaged.
