If you're looking for the distinct, iconic sound of the Boss FA-1 preamp but not quite willing to part with the cash to pay for vintage original, then JHS provide the answer (and a few extras) in the form of The Clover. Think of U2's The Edge in the mid-eighties and you have an idea of the sound this stompbox has been designed to sculpt. However, this pedal should maybe come with a warning, since once you mount it on your board, your setup is likely to change forever: single-coils get fattened up and humbuckers gain enhanced definition, while the heavier stompboxes on your board, as well as any valve amplifiers will benefit from a solid helping of extra power. All because of a lucky little green box.

The Clover: A Kind of... Music-Based Homecoming

It's not only the electric guitarists of the world who have a lot to gain from this JHS pedal. If your preferred weapon of choice is an acoustic guitar, this convenient preamp/booster will definitely provide a sonic upgrade. The control panel offers power over a three-band equaliser so you can edge closer to the sound of the original pedal that The Clover was born to emulate, while a 3-way switch pot reels it back in by cutting the EQ out completely, filtering out the mids, or opening up the entire range. Click the pot into the No EQ position and this nostalgic pedal is propelled back through time to that authentic Boss preamp-shaped sound. This - along with everything else - confirms The Clover as some kind of ... music-based homecoming! Welcome?
