General
The Neural Quad Cortex Mini packs the processing power and sound quality of its larger predecessor into a housing that takes up significantly less space on a pedalboard or desk. Despite its small size, the full user experience is retained thanks to the seven-inch touchscreen, which clearly displays the digital signal chain. The technology behind the Neural Captures and the high-quality audio processing ensure that no compromises are made on the sound or the device’s response speed. This makes the device a suitable solution for musicians looking for a portable unit that fits effortlessly into a laptop bag, without compromising on the ability to accurately capture their own amps and effects digitally.
Quad Cortex Mini: Intuitive operation
Physical interaction with the device combines the touchscreen with four robust stainless steel footswitches, which also function as rotary knobs for adjusting various parameters. Thanks to the so-called Focus system, the most important settings are immediately assigned to these rotary switches as soon as a specific block in the chain is selected, making it easier to make adjustments by ear. Each switch can perform multiple functions, meaning the compact hardware still offers access to an extensive set of commands whilst playing. Various modes allow you to switch quickly between complete presets or individual effects, whilst Gig View provides clear visual feedback in all lighting conditions.
Flexible connections
The rear panel features a selection of connections that simplify integration into existing setups, whether it’s a simple guitar rig or a complex stereo system. In addition to balanced outputs for studio monitors or live amplification, the unit features a combined input with phantom power, making it easy to use condenser microphones and create new recordings. The USB-C port transforms the unit into a full-fledged audio interface for recording sessions, whilst the MIDI connectivity and effects loops provide scope for external pedals. A lockable power connector also prevents the power supply from becoming accidentally disconnected during a live performance.
Full integration and workflow
Integration with the wider ecosystem is seamless, as all software and sound settings are interchangeable with the standard Quad Cortex without any adjustments. Users can seamlessly transfer backups and workflow settings between different devices, which is useful for those looking for a lightweight backup unit or using different setups for tour and studio work. The latest version of the operating system also adds extra algorithms, including spatial reverb effects and tools to resolve phase issues in complex setups with multiple amplifiers. This makes the platform a flexible base for both guitarists and bassists who want to have their entire library of sounds at their fingertips at all times.
