General
The Soyuz Silver 17 is a large-diaphragm tube condenser microphone with a cardioid polar pattern, designed for recordings where you want both a classic sound and modern clarity. The foundation is unmistakably Soyuz: big, generous bass and rich mid-range frequencies, but the updated edge-terminated S17E capsule adds extra presence, detail and a strikingly airy high end. As a result, a voice or instrument remains open and clear in the mix, without ever sounding harsh or hard, and you often need less post-production to get the sound ‘just right’.
In practice, it excels with vocals, (acoustic) guitars, keyboards and other sources that could do with a little more definition, whilst transients are reproduced with precision yet remain natural. Under the bonnet, you’ll find a hand-selected 6ZH1P valve and uncompromising build quality featuring handcrafted construction and point-to-point wiring – befitting a microphone designed to deliver years of studio service. Supplied complete with a PSU unit, a bespoke microphone spider and a handmade oak case.
