The C 414 series has also been around for a long time. This C 414 XLII is the successor to the C 414 B-TL II. The C 414 XLII really stands out in the recording of lead vocals and solo instruments.

Pickup Pattern and Adjustability

Omnidirectional, figure-8 and four intermediate positions offer the right setting for any setup, space or instrumentation. The signal levels can be attenuated, depending on the strength of the sound source. A low-cut filter offers further adjustment with the recording goal. De C414 is zeer gevoelig en door de 9 beschikbare ruimtelijke patronen letterlijk en figuurlijk zeer veelzijdig.
Vergeleken bij zijn broertje de XLS geeft de XLII een paar dB meer respons rond 6 kHz, wat o.a. vaak goed is voor leadzang.
Het is heel goed dat je er een grafiek bij krijgt met de frequentierespons van jouw microfoon: zoals ik merkte, kan die respons significant afwijken van de grafiek in de handleiding.

Mijn enige echte kritiekpunt betreft het koffertje:
Het bovenstuk incl. paperassen en popfilter is ongeveer even zwaar als het onderstuk incl. mic en shockmount, en het scharnier tussen beide delen gaat niet verder dan zo'n 100 graden. Gevolg: na opening van het koffertje klapt het bovenstuk achterover zodra je het loslaat, waarbij het onderstuk meekantelt en soms zelfs de mic uit zijn bedje de lucht in wordt gelanceerd; uiteindelijk komt het koffertje dan in een W-vorm te staan. Dat had beter gekund.

Een ander aandachtspunt is het bevestigen van de mic op de shockmount:
Het is te billijken dat de mount van kunststof is om doorzakken van een mic-boom te helpen vermijden, maar het vastdraaimechanisme van de mic in de mount voelt nogal krakkemikkig. Het is dus behoorlijk eng om mount en mic ondersteboven te hangen (bv. in een mid/side-opstelling); je moet dan heel goed oppassen dat de mic er niet uit valt.

Echt een super goede microfoon. Ik gebruik de microfoon om vocals op te nemen (voor onder andere muziek rap en zang en voor mijn YouTube kanaal) en ik ben erg tevreden met mijn aankoop.

Ik wist natuurlijk wat ik zou krijgen met deze aankoop want met wat research gedaan te hebben zag ik dat zelfs Bruno Mars, Luther Vandross en heel veel andere artiesten gebruik gemaakt hebben van deze microfoon.

Dus de prijs lijkt erg duur, maar de kwaliteit die je er voor krijgt is het zeker waard!

Zelfs zonder effecten of zonder te mixen klinken de vocals erg zuiver en goed.

Ook het design vind ik echt prachtig. Ookal ben ik pas 21, zelfs ik herkende de Motown style van de microfoon.

Ik moest wel meer dan 4 weken wachten tot ik de microfoon binnen had, maar dat wachten was het zeker waard, bedankt Bax-Shop! 🙏🏼
