General

When working with a few synths, vintage or otherwise, connecting them up can be less than practical. Often, you're forced through the labour of awkwardly disconnecting one then connecting another every time you want to switch. The ESI M8U MIDI interface is specifically designed to avoid that problem by offering no less than 16 ports that, in principle, will take a large number of keyboards or synths and each port can be configured as an input or output as needed. The M8U eX is full class-compliant, meaning that no drivers need to be installed before it can be operated and another considerate detail is its ability to couple with more M8U eX interfaces as needed. It can even be set up as a standalone unit and as a Thru/Merge solution placed before any MIDI devices.

Uitgebreid apparaat als MIDI interface aangesloten op de computer. Zelf had ik graag wat meer flexibiliteit als stand alone MIDI merge. Dus goed verdiepen wat jouw toepassing hiervoor is.

Ideaal systeem als het altijd optimaal zou werken. Helaas zet hij zichzelf nogal eens na enige tijd uit, dan gaan alle midi-ingangen op 'off'. Het enige dat je dan nog kunt doen is hem helemaal uitzetten en opnieuw opstarten. Dat geeft nogal wat ergernis.

Het kan te maken hebben met dat ik via een HUB werk, maar op een andere manier gaat het niet. Met 4 USB-C poorten heb je niet zoveel ruimte als je ook nog andere randapparatuur hebt die HUB-loos aan je mac moet. Wellicht werkt hij wel optimaal zonder, ik heb althans in de reviews vooral veel goeds gelezen.

Ik heb dit apparaat aangeschaft omdat ik nogal wat externe MIDI apparatuur heb. De flexibiliteit van dit apparaat is enorm. Iedere port is te configureren als MIDI IN of MIDI out. Dit kan het apparaat ook zelf (autodetectie) en werkt feilloos.

Ik gebruik dit apparaat bij een Mac Mini. Drivers installeren is niet nodig. Het is een class-compliant apparaat wat betekent dat OS X weet hoe het aangestuurd moet worden. in Logic Pro X zie je alle devices keurig opgesomd worden en kun je selecteren welke je wilt gebruiken en hoe (IN of OUT).

Het bevat ook een USB 3.0 hub wat een handige toevoeging is omdat je ook steeds meer apparaten.

Het lijkt een forse prijs voor zo'n apparaat maar ik kom nog uit de tijd waar je 1200 gulden moest neerleggen voor een 8xIN en 8xUIT MIDI interface :-)

Ik ben zeer tevreden over dit apparaat. Als je veel MIDI devices wilt gaan aansturen is dit een aanrader.
