Welcome ashore Novation's new Launchpad Series flagship: the Pro MK3. Loaded with a vast number of upgrades, it's going to be smooth sailing and while we've already known the previous series of MIDI controllers to be a fantastic match with Ableton Live, this fresh model takes things even further.

The Launchpad Pro MK3: Dive Deep into Ableton

In light of the fact that the Launchpad Pro MK3 comes with a number of new and welcome stand-alone features - more on that in a second - we have to remind you how much Ableton's software is ingrained in the core of any Launchpad. Now, you get to enjoy, as Novation themselves say, "the deepest Live integration yet". There are track select buttons on board for quick switching without losing direct access to other functions, as well as a useful Fixed Length recording feature. Clips can be copied and quantised without even touching your mouse and the Capture MIDI function has been overhauled and improved so that no concept or lucky accident will ever get lost again.

The Launchpad as a Stand-Alone Machine!

For the first time, there's a Launchpad with a USB-C adapter because besides being a computer-connected controller, the MK3 can serve as a stand-alone sequencing workstation; a 4-track, 8-voice polyphonic, 32-step sequencer to be precise and with MIDI In, Out and Out2/Thru to control all of your hardware and software. If you want to save something you've played in stand-alone as an Ableton clip, you can simply 'print' it at the push of a button.

Is that all then? Well, no. Just like the Launchpad X, the Pro MK3 gives you eight custom user slots to configure the 64 pads via your computer. There's a stand-alone Chord Mode and, as befits a new and improved model, Novation's most sensitive pads to date. This is what the Launchpad is all about: no monitor screens and no computer mouses, but an Ableton-ready interface you can trust with your gut feeling.

  • Older versions than Ableton 10 do not provide the full functionality of the Launchpad Pro MK3! However, the MK3 does function well as a 'standard' MIDI controller. 
  • As of the 1st of March, 2022, a two month subscription to Splice is no longer part of the included software package.
