A long time ago, in a land far away, BOSS made guitar effects pedals that were enormous and had a fixed power cable. As time and technology moved on the pedals got smaller and believe it or not, BOSS have now been making compact effects pedals for 40 years! To commemorate this, BOSS is reissuing three of its legendary models with the limited edition BOSS BOX-40 Compact Pedal 40th Anniversary Box Set. The set contains the PH-1 Phaser, the OD-1 Over Drive and the SP-1 Spectrum. Only 1500 of these special sets will be available worldwide and you'll even get a card telling you exactly which number you've got.

If you're not familiar with this trio of BOSS pedals, read on to find out more. The PH-1 Phaser produces a subtle phase that adds an extra dimension to your guitar sound. The OD-1 Over Drive is a highly-versatile overdrive pedal that can also be used as a clean boost on an overdriven amp. Finally, the SP-1 Spectrum is quite special considering the original is rare and therefore expensive. Essentially, it's a 1-band EQ that lets you emphasise certain frequencies in your sound. It's a bit like holding down a wah pedal in the same position to ensure your guitar solos really stand out.

Made in Japan

BOSS used to make all of its pedals in Japan but at the end of the '80s it moved production to Taiwan. The pedals made in Taiwan are just as good but for many, there's just something special about the Japanese models. The pedals in the BOX-40 Compact Pedal 40th Anniversary Box Set have all been manufactured in Japan and have the characteristic silver-coloured screw that the original PH-1, OD-1 and SP-1 models had. Naturally, the pedals are compatible with today's BOSS power adapters, they'll run on batteries too and they're equipped with modern LED indicators.
