General
At the time of writing, the Zoom M4 MicTrack is only portable recorder of its kind that both captures audio in 32-bit quality and features a built-in time-code generator to speed-up video-to-audio synchronisation. A film-maker's dream, the M4 recorder has an X/Y setup to support detailed stereo recording and supplies four channels that can be used to record both the internal microphone and external microphones simultaneously. The waveform can be monitored in real-time via the built-in LCD screen so you can check things like whether or not the audio will need normalising as it's being captured. And, in terms of sound quality, you're getting distortion-free, crystalline clarity, even when working with ultra-quiet or ultra-loud sources.
Low-Noise Preamps & Six-Second Pre-Record Function
The M4 MicTrak comes pre-fitted with the same preamps that came with Zoom's flagship F-Series recorders, so you're also guaranteed sublime focus as well as clarity. Monitor everything directly via the headphone output and connect the line output up to a camera for extra backup or eased audio-to-visual synchronisation. Further thought has also been spared for the post-production process, so this recorder also boasts extra features including a normalise function, and the six-second pre-record function is a life-saver when working spontaneously since a whole six seconds to captured and saved before you've even touched the record button.
