General
Like its name, the Zoom iQ6 is small but powerful. This compact stereo microphone plugs straight into the Lightning connector of your iPad, iPod Touch or iPhone, enabling you to make detailed stereo recordings. It's a great accessory for anyone who wants to use their smartphone or tablet to record interviews and concerts, or to do reports on location. The iQ6 ensures crystal-clear audio at all times, lending a professional touch to all your mobile video and audio projects.
iQ6: X/Y configuration
The two sensitive condenser microphones of the iQ6 have an X/Y configuration, enabling the compact and lightweight recorder to register a spacious stereo image. Additionally, this means that centrally located sound sources will keep their definition. The iQ6 allows you to adjust the recording angle of the microphones, which is quite a remarkable feature. Simply turn them to switch from 90 to 120 degrees, creating a wider, more spacious sound. The recordings you make with the Zoom microphone have a 16-bit/44.1 or 48kHz resolution and can be monitored using the standard 3.5mm line/headphone output. Use the Zoom iQ6 with an app like Garageband or the free Zoom app.
Gain, windscreen and spacer
If you're working with a microphone as accurate as the iQ6, you can't do without decent gain control. It ensures that soft sounds are recorded at a sufficient volume and that loud sources are registered without distortion. LED indicators inform you whether the incoming signal is being recorded at the right level. To reduce breath and wind noise to a minimum, the iQ6 comes with an accessory windscreen. If you want to use the microphone outdoors, the separately available WSU-1 windscreen will come in handy. The Zoom iQ6 also comes with an included spacer cap, which allows you to use it with a wide range of covers.
