General
The Rode SmartLAV+ is a practical lavalier microphone that you can connect directly to your iPod, iPad or iPhone. Furthermore, it is also compatible with Android devices. The SmartLAV+'s sound is definitely an upgrade compare to its already popular brother - the Rode SmartLAV. Especially the new, broadcast-quality capsule is responsible for this fact.
The Rode SmartLAV+: Omnidirectional Capsule
The SmartLAV+ features a high-grade omnidirectional capsule. Its diaphragm can handle a high sound pressure level, is highly sensitive and has low self noise. This way, any sound near the capsule is registered accurately. The lavalier comes with a waterproof pop filter, which ensures that ambient noise and plosives are reduced to a minimum.
Robust Design
The Kevlar-reinforced cable of the Rode SmartLAV+ ensures that it won't stretch and break easily, while an included clip ensures that the mic stays put after you've fastened it to your clothing. You can also connect the Rode SmartLAV+ to your iOS device via a standard 3.5mm TRRS port.

Heb deze microfoon gekocht om video lessen op te nemen met mijn iPhone 11 Pro Max. Ik had al een Lightning - mini jack adapter van Apple in bezit, dus ik vond het geen bezwaar dat ik met de mini jack deze microfoon moest aansluiten op mijn iPhone. Ik schatte al vrij snel in dat de lengte van de draad mogelijk te kort zou zijn, en dat was uiteindelijk maar goed ook. ik heb de verlengkabel van 6 meter [veel te lang natuurlijk, maar omdat het zo'n dunne draad blijkt te zijn is de lengte nauwelijks hinderlijk]. wel moet je uitkijken doordat de draad zo dun is, dat ie vrij kwetsbaar is voor ruw en lomp gebruik. dus voor indoor opnamen is het niet erg, maar ik kan me voorstellen dat je outdoor extra voorzicht moet zijn met deze [schijnbaar] breekbare draad.

Fijne microfoon, makkelijk te plaatsen, geluidskwaliteit is erg goed voor deze prijsklasse. Kabel is wat aan de korte kant, een halve meter meer was wenselijk geweest in sommige situaties.
Ook prima te gebruiken met een camera of een recorder, als je een verloop van trrs naar trs of xlr gebruikt.

Ben er ontzettend blij mee, werkt goed, doet wat hij moet doen. Weinig ruis geluid van de achtergrond. Instructie filmpje kijken en je kunt gelijk aan de slag. (Als je een iphone hebt, houd er rekening mee dat je dan een omkoppelstukje nodig hebt. Tegenwoordig heb je een andere microphone ingang namelijk.) Die omkoppelstukjes kosten bij apple €10,-

Microfoon met een uitstekende prijs/kwaliteit verhouding.
Het opgenomen geluid vond ik iets vlak klinken in de ruwe opname in combinatie met een iPhone, maar met een eenvoudige equalizer aanpassing is het simpelweg op te lossen.
Røde claimt broadcast quality en dat klopt wel of komt in ieder geval erg dichtbij. Voor mijn doel - YouTube opnames - is deze zeer geschikt!
Twee dingen op rekening mee te houden zijn dat deze een microfoon een aansluiting voor een smartphone heeft - een TRRS connector - dus om deze op een recorder aan te sluiten heb je een verloop kabeltje nodig.
Ook is de recording app van Røde zelf op moment van schrijven niet beschikbaar (meer). Volgens de website komt deze binnenkort beschikbaar. Nu gebruik ik de app Auphonic die prima goed samenwerk met deze microfoon.
