Since a pedal that seeks to push the limits of modulation and shape rhythmically unpredictable sound is hard to find, Electro Harmonix thought it time to introduce the Mod Rex Polyrhythmix Modulator. This effect pedal is packed with four separate modulation sections (mod, trem, pan, filter) that each offer a wealth of tone-tweaking options, including four LFO shapes per section. Once you've found a new favourite sound, you can save it to one of the 100 user presets, and this robust EHX pedal even gives you the choice between mono and stereo inputs and outputs.

The Mod Rex: Complete Modulation Control

The entire spectre ranging from subtle fluctuations to roaring gurgles can be controlled in multiple ways. Next to bypass, this EHX stompbox is not only outfitted with a tap tempo switch and tempo control but the speed can even be synchronised with an external pulse clock via the MIDI output. This protocol puts you in control of all of the presets and parameters of the Mod Rex - the kind of control that can be expanded even further by plugging a footswitch or expression pedal (neither are included) into the matching jack input.

Wrote the following about Electro Harmonix Mod Rex Polyrhythmic Modulator Effect Pedal

Dit is een leuk pedaaltje voor in de studio. Hij is MIDI syncable en is erg verassend om live mee te jammen. Je schijnt de patches ook te kunnen wijzigen via program changes maar dat heb ik nog niet geprobeerd. Het zijn 4 stereo effecten (filter -> tremolo -> pan -> modulatie effect) in serie, met alle 4 een LFO. Deze 4 LFOs hebben een frequentie die ritmisch verwant is aan de master clock (verkregen door MIDI of tappen) en een per LFO wijzigbare golfvorm. Veel leuke verassingen tijdens het spelen.

Minder is dat de effecten digitaal zijn, en net wat minder 'echt' klinken dan wanneer je de dedicated, analoge effect pedaaltjes zou chainen. Maar die zouden dus geen modulatie frequentie met elkaar delen/wijzigbare LFO golfvormen hebben, en veel meer ruimte innemen.
