Electro-Harmonix Launches Cock Fight Talking Wah Effects Pedal

The Cock Fight effects pedal by Electro-Harmonix is something quite special. It's one of the first - if not the first - cocked talking wah pedals on the market. The Cock Fight can emulate the sound of a wah pedal that's in one fixed position, and allows you to adjust the frequency with the twist of the FREQ knob.

Rule the roost

Releasing this pedal is quite a smart move by Electro-Harmonix. There aren't many alternatives for it, and it's eagerly anticipated by many musicians. You might know the intro to Dire Straits' Money for Nothing. In it, Mark Knopfler - front man, guitarist and mastermind behind the band - uses a similar effect. However, he achieves this specific sound by using a traditional wah pedal that is cocked to a fixed position. The Cock Fight allows you to create the same effect by simply adjusting the frequency.

Two filters: a varied palette

The Electro-Harmonix Cock Fight uses two filters: a wah filter, which creates that famous crying wah sound, and a formant filter, which emulates the cocked talking wah sound. Another interesting feature is the built-in fuzz, which can be placed before or after the filters, or even taken out of the circuit entirely. With the bias control, you can replicate the effect of a dying battery, for instance, or find various other creative ways to alter the signal. What's more, it's even possible to connect an expression pedal to the Cock Fight, so that you can use it more like a conventional wah pedal.
