General
JBL's STX815M is a prime example of a multi-purpose speaker that performs excellently, no matter which way you use it. The M already hints at the speaker's monitoring capabilities but it also makes a great compact PA speaker on top of a proper subwoofer or flown from the M10 rigging points. Its powerful 15-inch woofer is capable of pumping out quite a bit of bass (down to 47 Hz) but add a subwoofer and this speaker will truly shine. The STX815M pairs excellently with Crown amplifiers and DBX processing for perfect setting configuration.
Technical details of the JBL STX815M
When the built-in crossover is in use, the powerful JBL STX815M speaker has a maximum continuous power of 800 watts. Moreover, you can engage the bi-amped mode via a switch, allowing the compression driver and woofer to be amplified separately. The unique Vented Gap technology of the woofer makes sure it always performs perfectly, no matter what you throw at it. To prove that this isn't just talk, JBL tests every speaker series and pushes it to the limits in their own test centre, making sure they're all up to scratch. This way, top-shelf quality is guaranteed.
Other practical features
JBL's STX815M has a fully wooden housing with an asymmetrical shape, made of poplar-laminated, 13-layer birch plywood. Despite its wooden cabinet and powerful components, the overall speaker weighs just 26 kilos. Twelve built-in M10 rigging points enable you to fly the STX815M from a truss, for instance, and allow you to optimally direct it. You can also use it as a floor monitor thanks to its slanted side. An beautiful, industrial-looking grill protects the drivers and is fitted with acoustically transparent foam on the back for additional protection.
