The ART TPS II is a compact and comprehensive 2-channel tube preamplifier that takes up just 1U of space in a 19-inch rack. The hand selected 12AX7A tube together with ART's V3 Variable Valve Voicing add warmth and texture to your sound as well as giving you a variable input impedance. The ART TPS II is great for studio microphones or instruments and the top-quality circuits ensure optimal audio quality.
Variable Valve Voicing technology
ART's V3 Variable Valve Voicing is nothing short of top-quality technical innovation. Essentially, it's a digital system with presets that make use of a tube to give your sound characteristic warmth. There are built-in presets especially for electric guitars, keyboards, bass guitars, drums and vocals. The variable input impedance makes it possible to change the resistance of a microphone signal that influences how the tube responds and the amount of warmth it generates. You'll be able to achieve stunning results with vintage condenser microphones and ribbon microphones, among others.
Other features
Thanks to the top-quality components used in its construction, the TPS II has a wide dynamic range, effortlessly handling peaks of +20 dB while maintaining over 120 dB of dynamic range with virtually no distortion. That means an extremely detailed amplified microphone signal without compression. The TPS II also has an Output Protection Limiter that ensures the next link in your chain receives tight, distortion-free signal.

PLUS punten:
degelijk en mooi afgewerkt
stevige knoppen
veelzijdigheid om klankkleuren in te stellen (via de Art TPS II aangesloten op transistor- gitaarversterker verkrijg ik met mijn Fenders eindelijk het typisch zuivere twang- geluid)
er zijn 2 volledig gescheiden ingangen zodat ik tevens nog een condenstor- microfoon kan aansluiten (klinkt ook zeer zuiver)
de analoge en led meters op de beide kanalen zijn niet noodzakelijk maar wel handig,
MIN punten:
bedieningsknoppen staan in spiegel opgesteld waarbij ik me soms vergis maar dat went wel
onderaan geen rubberen steunvoetjes voorzien maar die heb ik er zelf opgekleefd.
BESLUIT: zeer degelijk en mooi toestel voor weinig geld.

Ik had diverse overstappen gemaakt, o.a. van Protools naar Apple Logic X (da's ook even wennen!), van Neumann microfoons naar sE Electronics en MXL met MODS (erg tevreden over). Echter... producties klonken niet naar tevredenheid. Begin dan maar eens te zoeken met al die nieuwigheden.
Zoek ik het in de preamps dan? Zelfs met al die topmerken? Ik heb toen toch via Bax een Art MPA II laten komen, wat toch een goede opvolger voor de Art DPS II zou moeten zijn. Eenmaal aangekomen merkte ik gelijk dat het toch de vertrouwde 'buizensound' is die ik miste in producties. De MPA II klinkt zeker goed, maar misschien wel te netjes. Toch niet 100% tevreden over en dus retour. Maar, ik wist nu waar te zoeken. Ik had steeds in mijn hoofd om een upgrade t.o.v. de Art DPS II te zoeken, dus misschien eens kijken naar de SPL Goldmike? Of misschien andere buizen preamps? Totdat ik dacht, waarom niet eens de Art TPS II proberen? Ik was immers altijd zeer tevreden met de DPS II. Dus... de Art op herhaling in mijn studio! Compleet identiek aan de DPS II op het digitale gedeelte na. Wel heb ik gelijk het goedkope Chinese buisje vervangen door eentje van Electro Harmonix. Die had ik nog besteld voor de DPS, maar nooit gewisseld. Een peuleschilletje trouwens dat wisselen.
Toen de ultieme test! Ik was al vertrouwd met het apparaat, dus zoeken hoefde niet meer. En ja hoor... dit is mijn sound! Je hoort gelijk die mooie toegevoegde warmte van de buis, de presets zijn een goed startpunt maar met al die instellingen kun je het apparaat exact instellen op elke microfoon. Ik liet in het verleden eindmixen ook even door de Art lopen, dit levert een mooie rijke ietwat gecomprimeerde sound op. Iets wat je met geen enkele plugin krijgt.
