Avantone's CR-14 is truly an exceptional ribbon microphone, with an attractive price tag. It can effortlessly be used for a variety of professional applications. Its design, sound character and performances are comparable to some of the most expensive microphones around. Use it for warm-sounding studio recordings of vocals, guitar amps and drum kits, as well as for instruments like acoustic guitar and mandolins.

The reliable CR-14

The Avantone CR-14 is made with high-grade materials. It has a robust, durable housing for reliable performances. Moreover, the microphone features a double lightweight ribbon element, so that it can handle extremely high sound pressures. Furthermore, you can count on very low noise and a figure-8 pickup pattern, making it sensitive on both ends. A shock mount is included - which can be positioned highly precisely - as are a metal case and wooden microphone case.

Zeker een goeie ribbon voor de prijs. Zal 'n mooie aanvulling zijn op mijn andere high end ribbons.
Ik heb ook een andere goedkopere ribbon gehad die eerder onbruikbaar gebleken is door de hoge ruis (zelf met vervanging naar lundahl transfo). (goeie preamps op protools HD systeem). bij deze mic is dat probleem er in elk geval al niet. In elk geval een micro met karakter.
Passieve ribbon, werkt ook goed met een cloudlifter. interessant om er nog meer uit te halen.

Voor akoestische gitaar (en wellicht ook andere dingen) is het zeker aan te raden om er een kleinmembraan condensator bij te zetten (rode NT5, of KM184, line audio CM3 als goedkopere optie)

Voor mid-side toepassingen is deze microfoon niet goed geschikt omdat voor- en achterkant verschillend klinken. Dat is juist weer een voordeel in andere toepassingen zoals guitar-amp of vocal opnames.

Prima microfoon voor de oude ribbon sound. Robust gebouwd maar hou er rekening mee dat een ribbon kwetsbaar blijft! Het hoog heeft een behoorlijk snelle rol off maar dat maakt hem ook lekker oud en warm klinkend.
