General
The G5191BK is an exceptional hollow-body guitar from Gretsch's Electromatic series. This semi-acoustic guitar is the signature model of Tim Armstrong, the founder of legendary band Rancid. Don't be fooled by its classic looks; this instrument is ideal for rougher playing styles. A pair of Gretsch Black Top Filter'Tron humbucker pickups deliver powerful and dynamic sound, from clear cleans to heavy, ripping distortion. The G5191BK has a rugged-looking matte black lacquer finish and is equipped with chic gold-plated hardware. Tim Armstrong's signature on the truss rod cover is the icing on the alt-punk-cake.
Gretsch G5191BK Tim Armstrong: a rugged sound
The 70mm thick, hollow body of the G5191BK is made of maple, ensuring a tight, clear sound, and is fitted with two thick tone bars for additional power and a fuller sound. Thanks to a large cutaway you can easily access the highest of the 22 frets. The slim maple neck has a rosewood fingerboard that is mounted with classic zero frets, a graphite nut and stylish block inlays. The body, neck and head of the guitar are fitted with beautiful multiple-ply bindings, while the two F-shaped sound holes feature single-ply cream-coloured bindings.
Hardware and electronics
The Gretsch G5191BK is mounted with two Black Top Filter'Tron pickups, each with its own volume and tone control. A master volume knob and a three-way pickup switch are also at your disposal. The FilterTrons are low-output humbucker pickups that have been specifically designed to filter out any electronic noise typical for single-coil pickups. They produce the warmth and sustain of a humbucker with the characteristic sparkle and bite of a single-coil. The G5191BK features a fully adjustable Adjusto-Matic bridge, accompanied by a harp-style floating tailpiece and supple Grover tuners keep your guitar tuned to perfection.

Ik speel op Hagstrom gitaren en die vind ik al goed. deze Gretsch 5191BK was buiten mijn prijsklasse.
Nu was deze gitaar iets in prijs verlaagd en had ik wat te vieren dus ik heb hem mezelf cadeau gedaan.
een goed besluit!
ik wil niet meteen wat over het uiterlijk zeggen, want het gaat erom hoe hij speelt!
laat ik zeggen dat ik hem mijn mooiste gitaar vind en dat hij dus ook in de woonkamer staat.
uiterlijk zegt niet alles maar is ook niet onbelangrijk!
hoe speelt hij dan?
hij speelt heerlijk, maar dat mag je ook verwachten als een gitaar nieuw is en goed afgesteld.
daarna krijg je het over voorkeuren. hals en klankkast.
Voor mij is de hals goed, breed genoeg, maar niet zo breed dat ik de E snaar niet kan dempen met mijn duim. De kast is natuurlijk best groot, we hebben het over een semi hollow body. maar ik ben accoustic gitaren gewend dus dat is ook prima.
het geluid.
ik heb hem zonder versterker gespeeld en je hoort echt dat de klankast hem geluid mee geeft.
prima voor als iedereen in huis slaapt, maar je toch wat wilt spelen, nee hij zal t niet winnen van een accoustic gitaar, maar t is toch lekker dat je niemand wakker maakt.
ingeplugd vind ik hem lekker klinken, heb hem momenteel alleen aan een kleinere amp gehangen, en ik vind hem vol klinken, de sound werd ik blij van.......
de gitaar werd ik blij van!

Echter nooit een Gretsch model gevonden die meteen goede voelde.
Deze gitaar ongetest blijkt fantastisch.
Geen 6120 model maar hij ziet er fantastisch uit.
De zwarte finish is sjiek in combinatie met de gouden hardware. Hij doet me zelfs heel donker groen lijken.
Hij is fabriek af goed afgesteld. Zelf vind ik de nul fret een fractie te hoog. Ook sneed de eerste en tweede snaar een kleine inkeping in de nul fret waardoor hij bij push ups er met een hinderlijke 'tik' eruit springt.
Het geluid is goed en krachtig. Helaas alleen nog thuis bespeeld want het mag niet op live op het podium..
De potmeters voelen wat zwaar aan en de master volume lijkt van 1 - 8 weinig te doen. Als je hem verder draait knalt hij vrij snel op max volume.
Hals en frets zijn perfect afgewerkt. Zo ook de mat finish.
De toets is vrij donker en doet me meer aan ebbenhout denken dan aan rosewood.
De inleg op de toets ziet er uit als goedkoop te glimmend plastic.
Tuners werken prima.
Gouden hardware is mooi van kleur.
Koffer is niet inbegrepen.
Deze gaat nooit meer weg.
