General
Although Brian Setzer is an avid Gretsch collector and is not known for taking it easy on his guitars. To make them more suitable for his explosive playing style and his intense use of the Bigsby vibrato unit, he often modifies his instruments. Of course, Brian Setzer's signature models have been modelled after these modified guitars. Based on the legendary G6120 Chet Atkins, the G6120SSL Setzer NV features a few modifications. Two feisty TV Jones Humbuckers have replaced the original pickups, for instance, and the guitar is fitted with Sperzel Locking Tuners to ensure a stable tuning.
Construction
Like the original G6120, this Brian Setzer Signature has a body made of 3-ply maple. The guitar's top has a wonderful grain and an Orange Flame LQ finish. Gretsch's patented 1959 trestle bracing reduces the chance of feedback, even at high volumes. The guitar's maple neck has a sizeable scale length of 24.6 inches and is fitted with an ebony fingerboard with 22 frets and characteristic thumbnail position markers. Naturally, this Gretsch is equipped with an original Bigsby vibrato unit.
Setzer Nashville Signature
The Brian Setzer Signature Nashville series still boasts the tone controls of the original G6120 model, but the Filter'Tron pickups have been replaced by two feisty TV Jones Humbuckers. Not only the hardware, but the guitars' looks have been slightly modified too. Two of the three tone controls, for instance, have been made to look like dice. Like the original G6120, the G6120SSL Setzer NV Orange Flame LQ WC has a headstock with a horseshoe inlay. Setzer's name makes a discrete appearance on the truss rod cover, and the back of the guitar's headstock bears his signature.

Het geluid is akoestisch mooi helder en gedetailleerd. Eenmaal ingeplugd op mijn Fender Mustang oefenampje (for thuis) komen de TV-Jones Brian Setzers humbuckers tot leven en met een beetje slapback echo en reverb komt het Setzer geluid te voorschijn. Met behulp van de mastervolumeknop en de pick-up volume regelaars kun je een myriade aan geluidjes tevoorschijn toveren.
Met bijna speels gemak laat de gitaar zich bespelen. Ik heb op Gibson, Fender en PRS gitaren gespeeld en niet een van deze gitaren laat zich zo makkelijk bespelen als deze Gretsch.
Zijn er minpuntjes? Ja. Ik kan drie noemen
1. hoog op de hals spelen is door de constructie van de gitaar niet zo makkelijk als op een Strat, PRS of Les Paul.
2. de spaarbevestiging aan de Bigsby tremolo met pinnetjes. Er zijn nu ook Bigsby's waarbij de snaar door de as van de tremolo kan wordt getrokken hetgeen het wisselen van snaren een stuk eenvoudiger maakt.
3. De prijs. Dit is niet een gitaar die je even met je krantenwijk bij elkaar spaart.
Heb je ooit eens geld over dan is deze gitaar een aanrader.
Ik heb heel veel rondgekeken naar de zaak die deze gitaar het goedkoopst kon leveren en kwam toch weer bij Bax Shop uit.
