With the Live Custom Hybrid Oak series, Yamaha has managed to create some stunning snare drums. This hand-made 14-inch by 5.5-inch snare drum with Magma Sunburst lacquer finish looks fantastic - but more importantly, sounds even better! So what's so special about these kettles and where does the word 'hybrid' come from? In the Live Custom Hybrid Oak series, Yamaha has given the powerful sound of oak more focus and attack by adding a layer of phenol. A layer of this plastic was added between 3 layers of oak on either side. As a result, the solid low-end you expect from oak, but with more resonance and dynamic range.

Yamaha Live Custom Hybrid Oak Snare Drum 14 x 5.5 Magma Sunburst

The wood-and-phenol hybrid is not the only thing that makes this snare drum sound so good: the tensioning blocks on the side of the shell are independently connected to the tensioning edges. This makes the resonance livelier and gives you a very open sound. Yet, partly due to the Yamaha Dyna Hoops of 2.3 mm, this snare drum is very easy to tune and features a wide tuning range. Dark chrome hardware makes this snare look very 'dangerous', making it a real eye-catcher in live situations. The snare is fitted with Remo Ambassador drum heads.
