Yamaha Recording Custom Birch 14x5.5 -inch snare drum, Surf Green

In 1975, Yamaha launched the first Recording Custom drums, and in the years that followed it became a popular series for studio work, as well as on stage. Now this successful series is back, but improved, as with this 14 x 5.5-inch snare drum. The shell is still made of birch, but with one less layer. That now means six layers with a thickness of 6.0 millimetres. This gives a wide tuning range to the snare, which, because of the birch wood, gives a lot of punch in the low and high anyway. This model is finished with a Surf Green lacquer.

Renewed tension blocks

On this series, of course, the hardware has also been updated. This is reflected in the One Piece Lug clamping blocks. With this modern version, loosening tensioning bolts is a thing of the past. Combined with the thinner shell, this provides more volume. Furthermore, the snare has triple flanged tensioning edges and a Q-Type string tensioner for the mat with 25 strings. And with the Remo Ambassador heads that come with it, the snare drum is complete. The overall picture fits nicely with the original Recording Custom series with a nice basic sound that is again usable for both live situations and studio recordings.
