The Hal Leonard The Real Book Volume II 'Bass Clef' is the bass edition of Volume II. It means that the melodies are notated in the bass clef (F clef). The chord symbols are the same as in the version for C instruments. Ever since the 1970s, the melodies and chords in the three Real Book volumes have been used all over the world as the basis for jazz improvisations. Until 2004, musicians and music students could only use pirated editions, for which the original composers received no money. In 2004, however, Hal Leonard came out with legal editions; here, Volume II is subtitled 'Second Edition'.
