Yamaha is the first manufacturer to dare to make musical instruments from Ecodear. This particular plastic is based on biomass instead of oil and is therefore CO2 neutral. The use of this material therefore produces a very natural sound close to wooden recorders, with the same warm, round tone. Moreover, the breathing response and register control is better than with regular plastic recorders.
Nature is also reflected in the appearance, with the yellow and white of corn being chosen. The slightly curved blowing action in the mouthpiece provides slightly more resistance, but gives better breath control resulting in a nicer expression and projection. The flute is fitted with a baroque bore and features a double sixth and seventh hole. The Yamaha YRS-402B comes with an equally eco-friendly cotton carrying case.
